Privacy Policy

PulseU is a free app and website for finding events at Rutgers–New Brunswick. It is built independently by a Rutgers student and is not an official Rutgers University product. Questions about this policy go to pulseu.app@gmail.com.

These are saved on your device and are not sent to us:

• The interest categories you choose
• Events you save
• Your Home view (For you or Everything), text size and which intro screens you've seen

Deleting the app deletes them.

A random device ID. The first time you open PulseU, the app creates a random ID. It is not your name, phone number or Apple's advertising ID, and it isn't shared with other apps.

Notifications, if you turn them on. We store your device ID, the push token Apple and Expo use to deliver notifications, whether notifications are on, and the organizations you follow, so we can tell you about their new events.

Usage analytics. We use PostHog to see how the app is used: screens opened, events viewed, tapped, saved or shared, searches, filters and which events appeared on your screen. This is linked to your random device ID, not to you. Automatic tap tracking and session recording are off. Searches that look like personal information are redacted before they're sent.

• Notifications are optional. Turn them off any time in iPhone Settings.
• Calendar is optional and only used when you add an event to your calendar. The app looks up your list of calendars so it knows where to save the event, but it never reads the events already in them.
• Location is never requested. The campus map works without it.

pulseu.app uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. Google Analytics uses cookies. You can block them in your browser settings, and the site still works.

If you claim an organization's page, we collect the organization email you give us and a link that shows you run it, so we can verify the claim.

Verified officers who post events get an account. For that account we store a username, full name, email, a scrambled (hashed) password that we can't read, the account's role and status, when it last posted, and internal notes we write about the account.

Events come from public Rutgers pages and feeds, including Athletics, Recreation, Career Exploration and Success, Libraries, Mason Gross and school calendars, from the Scarlet Arts Rx newsletter, and from organizations that post directly. We check sources every six hours. Nothing is taken from behind a NetID login. Every event links back to where it came from, and that site's own privacy policy applies once you open it.

• Supabase stores the event database and notification settings
• Render and GitHub run the systems that collect events and publish the website
• PostHog provides app analytics
• Expo and Apple deliver push notifications
• Google Analytics measures the website

We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.

What's on your phone is deleted when you delete the app. What's on our servers (your device ID, notification settings, the organizations you follow and usage analytics) is kept until you ask us to delete it. Deleting the app stops notifications, but it does not erase those server records on its own.

To have your data deleted, email us from any address. Tell us roughly when you first opened PulseU and whether notifications are on, and we will find and remove the matching record; the app will show your device ID in Settings in an upcoming version, which will make this exact. We'll remove it within 30 days.

PulseU is made for college students. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
